Inventor + Creator + Artist @Autodidactic I Anywhere Full Time

Imagine a fully self-sustaining company with no customers, products, or employees, a company that will grow and generate profit year after year completely on its own with no work done
anywhere by any human being.  Such a company already exists.  Autodidactic I (www.autodidactic.ai), a company that started with fully autonomous trading via Tech Trader (www.techtrader.ai), is now transitioning to become a self-sustaining, autonomous company - where all revenue generation is automated by the AI and the humans can focus solely on creative endeavors.  The company's vision is to create effectively a creators' guild, an environment where pure, unrestrained creativity can thrive without the taint of profit motive or outside pressure - a concept they call the "Autodidactic Islands."
Autodidactic I is now looking for additional team members to join and help take it to this next level. All team members become part owners of the company and operate independently to create their own projects, divisions, and even separate affiliated companies as part of our Autodidactic Islands collective. The company is not looking for employees or people who just want specific roles/jobs. It is looking for others to join them on their adventures as partners with similar passion and capacity to do everything from film, games, and music to AI, VR, and other exciting endeavors.

The current team consists of primarily self-taught individuals each deeply skilled in multiple fields and disciplines. As such, we are constantly looking for others like ourselves who are equally inventors, creators, and artists at heart to join us in the vision behind the company.  We believe the kind of projects we take on require the curiosity, hunger, and worldliness that only come from being genuinely interested in both programming and finance, math and literature, art and science, polymath and autodidact.  This is a company built to do anything by people who do everything.
Please do not apply if you only have interest and experience in one field.  At a minimal, you have a solid foothold in each the financial (algorithmic trading, autonomous hedge funds, etc), technical (coding, hacking, fully autonomous AI, etc), and artistic (film, music, games, VR, etc).  It is not optional.  It is not enough to be well versed in only finance and tech or in only tech and art.  It is required to be strong in all three.  You will literally be building companies from scratch and must wear all hats necessary to get things done, with no help from anyone if need be.  Everyone else will be doing the same.

Again, we are looking for people with their own projects and ambitions to join as partners, not employees.  This is not an entry level position and not a specialized role.  This is not an artist support group and not an accelerator or incubator to seed ideas.  We are not here to save anyone, nor are we interested in anyone looking to save the world. This is a team for those crazy and curious enough to build rockets to Mars or fuse with AI for immortality.  This is a ship for those wanting to see how far they can go and not just how long they can survive.  We've built an engine that lets us tackle any project we can think of, pursue any idea we can dream of, and we’re looking for others who can take it even further, others who, like us, have a strong sense of adventure, a healthy level of insanity, and a genuine desire to take over the world... just because we can.

Learn more about what we're up to at www.autodidactic.ai

As a way to filter many who will probably apply without reading what the role entails, please reach out to us directly at apply@autodidactic.ai rather than just hit the apply button.  Note that while we are officially headquartered in San Francisco, our team is spread across the world and frequently travels.  Be prepared to be in a different city almost every other week (not a joke).

Data Engineer @Flocabulary New York, United States

Description

Flocabulary is a rapidly-growing edtech company with traction in more than 60,000 K-12 schools. We have proven our model and bootstrapped our way to significant revenue, and we’ve never lost sight of our mission to transform teaching and learning in K-12 schools by building a fun and engaging learning platform that inspires students of all backgrounds.
Flocabulary is seeking a Data Engineer in the Analytics Department to manage our data warehouse and data procedures.
Who You Are

You are an organized, detail oriented engineer with experience maintaining solid processes and data integrity. You are trusted as the ‘final set of eyes’ on data that is used to drive business practices. You love version control and idempotency of data transformation code. You are keen to document institutional knowledge so it can be referenced by all. You want to be a part of a company that is committed to inspiring and teaching young people.

Responsibilities
  • You’ll start by working with our ETL & test tool, then by improving and adding functionality to it.
  • You’ll build and own summary tables that power dashboards, analytics, and ad-hoc reports.
  • You’ll make sure the data we use every day is accurate, and be an advocate for clean and maintainable data structures. You’ll build tests to make sure this is the case, and that breaking changes to underlying data models are caught early.
  • You should be an organizational guru. The work that you do will be used by many others within the company, so it should be neat, well documented and organized so that others can leverage the data.
  • Here at Flocabulary no one works in a bubble. You should be comfortable engaging and collaborating with coworkers across the organization.
  • You’ll propose changes to existing data models to enhance our analytic capability, with a sensitivity toward time and resource constraints of teams affected by breaking changes.
About Analytics

We believe in version control on our analytics platform, and all database tables are defined in code. We believe that good analytics help drive good business practices, and that the foundation is accurate data.
Our stack consists of:
  • Data Warehouse: Redshift
  • Webapp: React (JS) + Django (Python) + Heroku + MySQL/Postgres
  • Visualization: Grow Analytics, D3
  • ETL: in house, built on Celery Tasks
  • Other Tools: Salesforce, Gainsight

Requirements

  • 1 year of data engineering experience, or backend software development experience
    • Preferably with tools in our stack
  • Clearly demonstrated organizational capacity & attention to detail
    • Have you started something from scratch & kept it organized, or organized a messy situation?

Key Traits:
  • Superior organization & integrity - We want you to be very excited about organizing our data. Our team relies on correct, timely analysis and the best way to achieve that is with rock solid data integrity. Your attention to detail will be a multiplier on productivity for the Analytics team.
  • Curiosity - We're not looking for any specific technical skills. Instead, we hire eager learners who will pick up any tool they need to get the job done. Having said that, if you're not curious about coding and SQL, this may not be the role for you.
  • Excellent communication - We like to talk. We like to bat ideas around, brainstorm together, critique our work ruthlessly, and explain the rationale behind our decisions. We only hire people bold enough to make their case and humble enough to change their minds.

Designer @Flocabulary Brooklyn, New York, United States

Description

Flocabulary is a unique product company—we got our start as a library of educational hip hop CDs sold over the phone and shipped by mail. Over the years we’ve grown into a full-blown educational platform, teaching vocabulary through hip hop videos, activities, assessments, and student-creation tools. Our mission is to make learning enticing and accessible for all types of learners. This is an exciting challenge and we're looking for a talented designer to pursue it with us.

Who You Are:

You're a designer with a passion for user experience, branding, and designing for the web. You're all about accessibility and you know when to rely on conventional design patterns vs. try something new and potentially wacky. You've got responsive design principles on the mind and typography in your heart. And let's face it, no one can move a button 2px to the right quite like you can. You're the whole package and most of all, you're eager to use these skills to help students learn.

Position Overview:

As the second designer to join our growing team, you will have the autonomy to work on large features that shape our product, visual brand and the education of many students. We work in a fast-paced and party-hearty environment, where we fly from project to project, across all departments. One day we're mocking up product interfaces for a new feature, the next we're designing a new tshirt or homepage, the next we're laying out student handouts to be used in classrooms. We're looking for someone ready and willing to hop in wherever they're needed.

Responsibilities:

  • Make big product decisions
  • Lead design on new features, taking them from concept to design, prototype, testing and execution
  • Look at metrics and user-feedback on how your designs are performing and iterate to improve them
  • Work side by side with talented engineers who would bring your visions to life
  • Help evolve the visual expression of our brand by experimenting with new ideas and visuals
  • Work closely with the marketing and sales teams to create and improve brand assets

Requirements

2+ years of design experience
Talent - Whatever the medium, truly exceptional work always stands out. You're proud of what you've done, and your portfolio shows it.
Curiosity - We're not looking for any specific technical skills. Instead, we hire eager learners who will pick up any tool they need to get the job done. Having said that, if you're not curious about coding and emerging design tools, this may not be the role for you.
Excellent communication - We like to talk. We like to bat ideas around, brainstorm together, critique our work ruthlessly, and explain the rationale behind our decisions. We only hire people bold enough to make their case and humble enough to change their minds.

Benefits

  • Competitive salary
  • Fully paid medical, vision, and dental insurance for full time employees and employer contribution toward dependent care

Web/mobile application developer TechEmpower, Inc El Segundo, CA, United States Full Time

TechEmpower: Full-time web/mobile application developer needed for El Segundo office

We hire people, not skill sets. If you're a motivated, creative developer who wants to work in a lively and encouraging environment, let's talk.
Over the past 19 years we've cultivated a great group of people to work with. Our developers are smart, thoughtful, respectful, opinionated, dedicated, and fun. We don't hire often, but when we do, we value these qualities as much as technical abilities.
Founded by a former computer science professor, we keep the same feel as a small computer science lab (without the long hours):
  • Challenging and varied projects
  • An informal, comfortable environment
  • Intelligent, engaged people
  • Stimulating and respectful technology discussions
  • Frequent mentoring
  • A culture of camaraderie and helpfulness
  • A uniquely egalitarian approach to development and design
Because teams at TechEmpower are small, ranging between 2 and 6 people, we need developers who can work on every aspect of an application ("full stack" developers). We rely on individual developers to do much of their own software design, with guidance and discussion. It's yours to build, and we want you to build it.
A typical developer works on one project at a time, but over the course of a typical year will get exposure to up to 2 or 3 different projects, and each new project means new technologies, new people, and new approaches. We work hard to to improve each other's technical capabilities, so you'll never stop learning.
We do work for clients, but from our office in El Segundo. We pride ourselves on doing the best we can for our clients. This means helping them to really understand what they need, careful planning and design, and on-time, on-target deliveries, while maintaining a sensible work/life balance. You'll build quality applications and have fun doing it.
